Launch Point market watch: smart buys to make this week

If you need upgrades without nuking your coin stack, a few Launch Point cards are already shaping the early meta and the market. Here’s what we’d grab, what we’d list, and what we’d leave for later.

The buys

  • Grab a goalie you trust. Jake Oettinger is the pick. 85 OVR with Post to Post and balanced low/high stats, and he’s been around 85k on the AH from community reports. Prices move, but anything under that is a win.
  • RD anchor that just works. Charlie McAvoy is expensive early, but RD is thin and he brings Truculence plus 90 passing and strong awareness. If you can afford him around the current community price, he stabilizes your top pair and your breakout.

The watchlist

  • Pure scoring, price still settling. Kyle Connor has Wheels and lethal shooting. We’d set alerts and watch undercut waves rather than rushing a buy. When he dips after pack spikes, pounce.
  • Budget crease option. If Oettinger gets bid up, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is a calm 83 OVR alternative. No flashy ability, but solid positioning for a low coin spend.

Cheap upgrades that play above their OVR

  • Steady LD with great reads. Mattias Ekholm brings 91 defensive awareness and Unstoppable. Perfect for players who defend with their stick and body position, not just hits.
  • Faceoff fixer. Mavrik Bourque has Quick Draw and reliable puck skills. Park him at 3C to win draws and feed your wingers.
  • Mobile puck mover at RD. Nils Lundkvist with Elite Edges is a clean breakout on a budget. Not a hitter, but he’ll get you out of the zone.
  • Cheap finisher for your third line. Ethen Frank has Quick Release and enough pop to punish bad clears. Nice bench card for late-game offense.

Market tips for Launch Point cards

  • Buy during traffic. Content drops often trigger pack waves and undercuts in the afternoon. EA’s own schedules have been lining up around 2 PM PT, so that’s a good window to watch.
  • Check real prices, not vibes. Community prices move fast. Open the card on HUTDB to see recent submissions, then hit the Market to compare similar OVRs and abilities before you bid.
  • Know your fit before you buy. Use the Squad Builder to drop a target into your lines, and check your combo progress in the Chemistry Lab and live Meta Combos. If a card doesn’t push you toward a key combo, don’t force it.
  • List smart. If you’re flipping, 1-hour listings during peak traffic test demand and reduce the chance you get buried by the next undercut chain.

What to do next: snipe Oettinger if he’s under 85k, set Connor to your watchlist, plug gaps with Ekholm or Lundkvist, and keep an eye on the Market page this week.
